Fashion Friday: Say Yes to the Dress Edition

1.11.13

When we eloped in New Orleans this Spring, I knew I wanted to wear something special, but I also knew I wasn't a wedding dress girl.  Nothing fancy, nothing white...I have a child, the jig is up.

I wanted to get something pretty though.  Something that I felt comfortable in and that I could repurpose down the road. When my friend City Girl introduced me to the website eshakti.com I knew I'd find just what I wanted, probably 10 times over.  They sell skirts, tops and mostly dresses in sizes 0 - 36.  The dresses are also all customizable, which means you can add or take away length, sleeves and pockets.  You can add pockets to all your dresses!!!! Most of their dresses have a charming, vintage feel, many featuring the always flattering and super popular "fit and flair" silhouette.  I ended up buying three dresses - trust me, you can't just stop at one.

The one I wore for the wedding is their Fiona Dress, a whimsical blue lace number with a 50's inspired sash tie waist.  I paired with a cropped white cardigan and some espadrilles that I threw out as soon as I got back to our apartment that afternoon.  Why do I still insist on buying cheap shoes?  I could have signed that wedding certificate in blood if they wanted me to, after the number those shoes did on my feet.

In my Eshakti lace frock with my adorable "flower girl"

I plan on wearing this dress in the fall and winter with tall boots, jackets and scarves.  It's too pretty to leave it hanging up in my closet all year.  Besides, I love the idea of wearing a lace dress on a Tuesday, "just because".

The good news is that I have a great discount offer for any of my readers that want to try out eshakti.com.  Just use promo code TRACEY7NQF and you'll receive $30 off your order.  With most of their items in the $60 - $200 price range, this is a significant savings. Run, don't walk, people.

Some fashion related eye candy online:

My friends at Addition Elle want to let you know about an exciting event they have coming up on November 5th at 7pm. Iconic plus size model Ashley Graham is launching her first ever lingerie line with Addition Elle and they're kicking the whole thing off with a premiere on Youtube and a live-tweet session with Ashley.  I'll be there, hope you will too!

Not familiar with Ashley's work?  Check out her Lane Bryant ad that was deemed too sexy to air on television by FOX and ABC and her show stopping TV spot for Addition Elle.  Clearly, the woman knows how to rock some lingerie. I'm looking forward to seeing what her designs are like!

While we're talking about lingerie, check out my pinboard featuring vintage bra ads here.  I especially like the Maidenform "I dreamed I was a..." campaign.  Great stuff!

If there's anything you'd like to see in this space on a Friday, let me know!
